/What we do
Our library is a welcoming place that serves the whole school community, including students, parents and staff. The KFS library catalog includes approximately 10,000 book titles. Our collection includes junior and senior fiction and non-fiction books, reference books, teacher resources, early readers, picture books, and several subscripted magazines and newspapers.
To promote mother tongue and language learning, our library offers an ever-growing World Languages section. Our World Languages section consists of titles in Korean, Turkish, Spanish, and Arabic, to name a few. Each year, we take into account our students’ needs as well as school language profile to expand and broaden the scope of our library collection in order to provide multiple perspectives on various topics.
Literacy Classroom
As part of the library catalog, each literacy classroom houses approximately 400-600 books to facilitate inquiry, literacy, and research. The books within each classroom are carefully selected to reflect student levels. Student levels are determined by the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System. In order to keep levels current and reflective of student interest, classroom libraries are regularly exchanged throughout the school year.
Online Resources
In addition to print resources, KFS subscribes to a number of online resources as well, such as EBSCOhost, Explora for Primary and Secondary Schools, Raz-kids, IXL, BrainPop, and BrainPop Jr. The KFS library also makes available a range of student-friendly online resources, including Newsela, Khan Academy, Discovery Kids, National Geographic Kids, among others. These online resources are made easily accessible to the school community through the KFS Student Resources Symbaloo.
